21 brave PTRC scullers took to the water on Saturday 7th December, in some rather pleasant tideway racing conditions, for this year's Scullers Head of the River Race. We had representation from all of our squads as well as plenty of visiting crews choosing to boat from our club.
From the senior men, we had Sam Diserens, Jamie Diserens, Salvatore Chiocca, John Hickling, Alastair Breeze & Alessio Massaro racing in the Championship, Lightweight Senior, Masters B, Senior, Club & Masters C categories. Additionally, Ali Boileau, Alex Marengo, Paul Debois, Simon De Maria, Bill Desmond, Geoff Adams and Jeremy Brecknock completed the mens masters entries from PTRC.
From the senior women, Kathryn Bevan & Aba Carboo took to the water in the women's novice and senior categories. The women's masters entries saw Karen Shepherd, Ele Culley, Mary Mortimer & Kate Pontes de Freitas storm the course.
The results showed all our scullers getting in the mix in all the categories. Most notably from the mens side, Sam, who started at number 11, finished at an impressive 54th position overall, in a time of 22:31. Jamie, Sal & John put in solid performances to finish comfortably within the top 150 athletes. In the masters B category, Ali Boileau finish 4th, also within the top 150 scullers. From the women's entries, our biggest triumph came from Kathryn Bevan who picked up the win in the women's novice category. Well Done to her and a nice piece of silverware to boot! Also, our club captain, Aba Carboo finished a superb 6th in the women's senior category. A massive pat on the back to all our PTRC single scullers for their efforts! A well done and thank you to our visiting crews from Reading University BC, Molesey BC, North Staffordshire RC & Norwich School. See you next time!
