Frequently Asked Questions

What do i need to bring/wear?

For your safety you must wear wellies for all water sessions as our steps to the water can gets slippery. Please not designer wellies (Hunters for example) are not ideal as they do not have sufficient grip - the cheaper the better.

In terms of kit, the best clothing for rowing is light weight, stretchy, breathable and fairly form-fitting. Loose clothing can get caught in the slides under the seats. Sportswear is ideal such as leggings, shorts, t-shirts, jumper (no pockets or zipped pockets), waterproof jackets, a towel and a change of clothes.

How much is the course

The course cost is available under the Introduction & Fee tab. 

Do I need to be a club member to do the course?

The course fee will cover your Club Membership fee for the duration of the course, if you decide to stay on after the course you will be required to set-up a monthly payment depending on the level of membership. More information is available under the Join Us tab.

what happens when it rains?

Rowing can be weather dependent. We do row in the rain unless it is unsafe todo so by the safety officer. We recommend you to bring a change of kit and waterproof clothing. If weather conditions are deemed unsafe, the water sessions will be cancelled and replaced with technical indoor sessions.

I've completed my learn to row, what's next?

After completion of Learn to Row, a end of course social to celebrate the hard work during the course. We trust you have enjoyed an introduction to rowing and would like to stay on progressing through PTRC. Those who are keen and have shown the necessary commitment and required aptitude will have the opportunity to join as a member of our Novice Squad. You will have access to club facilities, regular training sessions with a land programme as well as participating our regular social events which includes Oktoberfest, Burns Night and the End of Season Awards Dinner.

I am interested, what's Next?

Our Learn2Row Courses run at certain times of the year, with dates published on the Learn To Row section. Our courses are over subscribed and if you are interested, please raise an interest on the Caught Your Interest section and a member will get back to you with confirmed dates and outcomes.

Is there an age restriction on joining the course

You must be 18 years of age and older to participate in our Learn to Row Course. We are not able to open the course for anyone under the age of 18.
