HAMMERSMITH AND CHISWICK REGATTAS
Hammersmith Regatta
The senior squads, now incorporating the development squads, wasted no time at all after returning from camp to open their regatta accounts for 2017. At Hammersmith Regatta, the men’s novice 8+ beat Furnivall in the opening round, while the women’s IM38+ beat Vesta convincingly – both crews including rowers in their first regatta race. Unfortunately the progress didn’t continue in the finals; the women’s crew lost to Sons of the Thames, while the men’s crew lost to Claire’s Court School. The men’s IM3.4+ lost a very tight race against Latymer School by a mere canvas, with Latymer going on to win the final by a large margin.
Chiswick Regatta
The racing continued today at Chiswick Regatta, with the first two wins of the regatta season now in the bag, as well as some more minor milestones. Three of the men’s squad raced their first regatta race in a single with Sam and Ewan both winning their opening heats. The Nov.4+ also got off to a great start, winning their first round in a three-boat race. Debs, also in her first regatta race in a single, beat two scullers from Mortlake either side of beating a sculler from St. Paul’s School to win the WNov.1x event. The men’s four, through to a straight final after their first round opposition scratched, took the win against Auriol Kensington after leading by a canvas for most of the race and then pulling out to 1.5 lengths in the closing stages. For two of the crew it was their maiden point.
WNov.1x – Debs Oakley
IM3.4+ – Jamie Diserens, Sam Russell, James Percival, Ewan Maddock, Peter Jones (cox)
