Join the PTRC Water Quality Testing Initiative

Why Test the Water?

With the recent opening of the super sewer downstream from PTRC, we’re taking proactive steps to monitor water quality around our new steps. Our focus? Tracking levels of E. coli to ensure the river remains safe and healthy for our community.

The Plan

Starting in January, a dedicated team of volunteers will collect water samples weekly for six months. These samples, taken at roughly the same point of the flood tide, will also include data on water temperature and river conditions.

The Fulham Reach Boat Club (FRBC), experienced in water testing, has generously agreed to analyse our samples using their Fluidion ‘Alert One’ device. Results will be shared with British Rowing, River Action, and open-source databases to contribute to larger environmental efforts.

How You Can Help

We need enthusiastic members to join the sampling group or contribute to the fund for materials:

  1. Sampling: Volunteers will receive training on how to collect water samples, complete data forms, and deliver samples to FRBC. Sampling will be done on a rota basis, so each volunteer will cover a few weeks.

  2. Funding: The total cost for six months of testing is £800. With £400 from British Rowing and £200 already donated, we need just £200 more to fully fund the project.

Get Involved

Want to help? Whether you’d like to volunteer for sampling or contribute to the fund, we’d love to have you on board. Text the PTRC Water Testing Group to get started.

Together, let’s keep our river safe and clean!
