This year, the Senior Women’s squad entered two eights into WEHORR finishing 121st and 220th out of over 300 crews, placing them 26th and 76th in the competitive Challenge category.
Both crews delivered a committed race down the Tideway. Despite a few overtakes, the A crew thrived off the competition around them, particularly relishing an extended stretch of spicy side-by-side racing with Cardiff Uni between Chiswick Eyot and Hammersmith Bridge.
The day was capped off in style with a three-course meal generously prepared by the Senior Men, a perfect reward after a day of hard racing.
Two weeks later the A and B crews united to form a Masters A/B crew for Vets Head, setting off in the once-in-a-lifetime starting position of 3rd on the river. After the rare luxury of a very brief marshalling, they launched into a confident and aggressive race. Taking the best line through the tideway, they capitalised on the conditions while watching other crews toil away in the slacks.
The row was not only technically sharp but tactically smart — and the squad achieved their goal of banking valuable points toward future race entries. Glorious weather and a hearty post-race feast courtesy of the Dev Men’s squad made the day even more memorable.
All in all, two weekends of excellent racing, good vibes, and even better food.
